JOHANNESBURG – A double-digit increase in macadamia crop production is expected in the 2023 season – with 2024 already showing signs of more growth.
This is according to calculations from the handlers and processors of the macadamia industry body, SAMAC.
This upward growth trend can be attributed to new plantings reaching maturity and starting production.
The chair of the South African Macadamia Processors Forum, Pieter van der Westhuizen, says they are expecting their biggest harvest yet.
But, lower prices are affecting the industry and hampers further job creation.
